Steam Mop FAQs

What floors can you use a steam mop on?

Shark steam mops are suitable for use on all sealed hard floors, including tile, stone, marble, vinyl, hardwood and sealed laminate. Do not use on unsealed wood or unglazed ceramic floors. On surfaces that have been treated with wax and on some no-wax floors, using a steam mop may remove the sheen due to the heat and steam action. We recommend testing an isolated area of the surface to be cleaned before proceeding. We also recommend that you check the use and care instructions from the floor manufacturer.

Can you use a steam mop on laminate?

Shark steam mops are suitable for use on all sealed hard floors, including sealed laminate. If you are unsure, check the use and care instructions from your floor manufacturer.

How do you use a Shark steam mop?

Shark’s automatic steam mops automatically produce steam – simply plug in, select a setting, then slowly move forwards and backwards over the floor. Manual steam mops require a gentle pumping action as you mop to activate the steam. Don’t add any steam mop detergent, soap or other liquids – Shark steam mops clean using the power of steam alone, with no added chemicals!

Which is the best steam mop?

We offer a wide range of steam mops to suit every need, including a Floor & Handheld Steam Cleaner that transforms into a portable steamer to clean tiles, taps, windows and other surfaces, and a Steam & Scrub Mop for extra floor-scrubbing power. All Shark steam mops include machine-washable, reusable Dirt Grip pads made from microfibre fabric.

How to care for your Shark steam mop
  • Clean Using Water Alone: To prolong the life of your steam mop, we recommend using distilled water in the tank. Make sure you only add water to the tank — chemicals or cleaning solutions (including vinegar) may damage the steam mop and could be unsafe.
  • Two-Step Cleaning: For best results, sweep or vacuum your floors before cleaning with your steam mop.
  • Empty Before Storing: After use, unplug your steam mop and let it cool before removing the Dirt Grip pads. Empty the water tank before storing. Wait until it has fully cooled and all the steam has been released.
  • How to Clean Dirt Grip Pads: Machine wash your Dirt Grip pads separately in warm water using liquid detergent. Never use bleach, powdered detergent or fabric softeners, as these may damage the pads or leave a coating that reduces cleaning performance and absorbency. Line dry or tumble dry on a low setting to help extend the life of the microfibre fabric. Over time, dirt particles, grease, friction and repeated washing can cause the fibres to break down. For best cleaning results, replace your Dirt Grip pads every 3 to 4 months with normal use.
